Unison Solutions Scholarships

Unison Solutions is pleased to announce the granting of scholarships to two University of Wisconsin-Platteville students in the amount of $1,250.00 each. Congratulations to Nathaniel Reiff, Mechanical Engineering major and Cole Thill, Industrial and Systems Engineering major.

Unison Solutions has been an industry leader in biogas conditioning and upgrading for over 23 years. Investing in future engineers to help grow this industry is part of our long-term commitment to biogas systems and the RNG market.

Our systems have been installed around the world at landfills, wastewater treatment facilities, dairies, and food processing plants. We manufacture biogas conditioning and compression packages in sizes that range from 20 scfm up to 8,000 scfm, and we work with all types of cogeneration equipment to customize a biogas-to-energy system for each site. The RNG produced by these systems powers on-site industrial generators, is used as fuel by CNG vehicles, and is injected into natural gas pipelines.

Unison Solutions has over 60 full-time employees, including engineers, CAD designers, PLC programmers, welders, fabricators, electricians, and service technicians. We are unique in our ability to provide all facets of a renewable energy project in-house—from equipment fabrication to ongoing maintenance support. Our certified ASME manufacturing shop and UL-certified panel shop are part of our 65,000 ft2 facility in Dubuque, Iowa, where we design and build every system we sell.

Our products include:

  • Biogas-to-pipeline or Biogas-to-vehicle fuel systems
We have developed BioCNG, a patented biogas conditioning system that economically produces a biogas-based RNG fuel for injection into the natural gas pipeline or powering compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles.
  • Compressor systems
Our compressor systems use a two-stage condensate removal process to protect not only the end-use equipment but also the compressor itself. These systems can be designed for any gas flow at pressures up to 200 psig. Our equipment has been used to produce RNG as vehicle fuel or for pipeline injection, and to power turbines and fuel cells.
  • Blower systems
Our blower systems are designed to treat gas for use in boilers and internal combustion engines. Systems can be designed for any gas flow and for positive or negative inlet pressures; we choose blower technology that provides the best fit for the application.
  • Moisture removal systems
If compression is not required, we can provide the same level of gas conditioning for use with existing blowers or compressors. Whether filtration, condensate removal, or heat transfer is required, we can build a system for that application. We can also provide passive drying systems for process gases that are not related to biogas. Our experience with the heat transfer characteristics of gas mixtures allows us to design systems to meet customers’ exact specifications.
  • Sulfur removal systems
Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and organic sulfur removal from biogas is often necessary to prevent corrosion, decrease maintenance of downstream equipment, and lower SOX emissions. We offer several different sulfur removal technologies depending on the concentration levels and application.
  • Siloxane removal systems
When biogas containing siloxanes is combusted, deposits of solid silica (SiO2) collect within the equipment. These deposits can inflict profound damage, causing more frequent maintenance and lower generation capacity. To address this issue, many of our systems are used in conjunction with integrated siloxane removal systems.
  • Moisture/particulate filters
We design and fabricate moisture/particulate filters that are available in multiple sizes. Our filters have a 3-micron particulate removal standard and can be custom built to fit any application.
  • Custom systems
Our passion for problem solving doesn’t end with biogas—we have collaborated with multiple customers on the development of their custom concepts into unique, effective systems. Examples include:
  • VOC extraction from vent gas
  • NOX reduction from flue gas
  • Renewable energy research projects

In addition, Unison Solutions offers a variety of services for the equipment and systems we manufacture:

  • Startup, commissioning, and training
This is offered with every system, depending on individual customer requirements. Typically, this includes:
  • Review of all electrical and mechanical connections
  • Training of on-site personnel on system operation
  • Confirmation and documentation of system performance
  • Media installation and gas testing
  • Review of PLC programming
  • Review of detailed O&M manual
  • Maintenance
Unison Solutions provides annual service contracts for remote access and on-site service. Our factory-trained service technicians are always available for technical phone support and online system diagnostic support, and we maintain an inventory of replacement components for all Unison equipment.
  • Biogas testing and media
Our technical group can help with each aspect of the gas sampling and testing procedure. We provide in-house evaluation of biogas test data and determine the proper filtration media; we inventory large quantities of our media to supply our customers quickly.

To date, Unison Solutions has provided the biogas marketplace with over 375 systems. From project conceptualization to completion, we work closely with our customers to help them achieve their renewable energy goals.
